Part of gutter care is determining whether cleaning, maintenance, or replacement is called for. While regular care will dramatically extend the life of your gutters, eventually they will require replacement. Damaged sections of gutter should be replaced immediately. Even if damage does not seem severe, even the slightest crack will allow water to leak into backing and fascia boards – which will eventually seep into walls and foundations. Watch for peeling paint or rust. This is a helpful indicator that water is constantly present – and has caused such conditions. We’re not just talking about constant rain here – we’re talking about standing, or slow-draining water. This is generally caused by clogs that may not be visible. In these cases, it’s best to conduct a thorough cleaning. We’re here for that task – so don’t hesitate to give us a call. Check all around – including under your gutters. If you identify standing water or mold in or around your gutters, immediately check for clogs or stoppages. Wetness underneath gutters can point to gutter leaks, and must be addressed. If no blockages exist, gutters could be cracked, or insufficiently secured to the house or structure. Drooping or sagging gutters are also problematic. In the spring and summer, gutters may fill with water due to stoppages or obstruction. This is a good sign that it’s time to replace your gutters. The good news is that replacement also means you can upgrade, saving headaches and costs down the road. Do not leave sagging gutters unaddressed. We have seen too many houses with sagging gutters that have eventually collapsed, (or worse) frozen, and fallen on cars or people and property underneath.
